UAE Labour Law Overtime Rates

Type of Overtime Rate Details
Regular Working Hours 1.25x (25% extra) Overtime beyond 8 hours/day during normal hours
Night Shift (11 PM - 6 AM) 1.50x (50% extra) Work during night hours
Holidays & Weekends 2x (100% extra) Work on designated holidays or Fridays
Night Shift on Holiday 2.5x (150% extra) Night work on holiday/weekend

How Overtime is Calculated

Step 1: Calculate hourly rate = Monthly Salary ÷ (Working Days × Hours Per Day)

Step 2: Multiply hourly rate by overtime multiplier (1.25x, 1.50x, or 2x)

Step 3: Multiply by number of overtime hours

Example: 5,000 AED salary ÷ (22 days × 8 hours) = 28.41 AED/hour. 20 hours overtime at 1.25x = 20 × 28.41 × 1.25 = 710.25 AED
